About the show
To Only in 2017 did the Lviv National Opera return this masterpiece to the stage as part of the artistic project "Ukrainian Breakthrough". The director of the performance was People's Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Vovkun.
«When the Fern Blooms» – a unique combination of folk opera and ballet that transports the viewer to the world of Ukrainian rituals, legends, and national history. The first act - – – – – – reveals the magic of Kupala Night, where ancient traditions, mythical creatures, and the legend of the fern bloom come to life – a symbol of happiness, love and the fulfillment of the most cherished dreams.
In the second act – – – – the centuries-old history of Ukraine appears before the audience: from the Cossack era to the present day. This is a story about the struggle for freedom, the Cossack spirit, the memory of generations and faith in the future, the symbol of which is the birth of a new life.
We invite you to witness an event that combines history, tradition and modern art, affirming the strength of Ukrainian culture on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day.
The event will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, in partnership with the Zhovkva City Council and the Borys Voznytsky Lviv National Gallery of Arts.
